.out with the old, in with the new.

Beginning a new year is wonderful. I love that fresh feeling of starting over and making new habits and resolving to be better. It’s exciting to look back on everything you accomplished in a year and look forward to where you will be at the end of the next.

We don’t, however, do much in the way of exciting New Years celebrations. We do usually go to our friends house for dinner and games, but we usually head home awhile before the new year. Last year we were in bed before midnight. Last night we made it home about 11pm and stayed up till midnight only because by the time we got the kids ready for bed it was about quarter till midnight. I have to say, I think NYE is a little overrated.

I can’t say I’m exactly sad to see the end of 08. It’s been a crazy year with more ups and downs than I can number. I’m happy to move on to new things. Because so much has happened this year I need to look back on it all and do some reflecting as I ponder the changes I want to make in 09.

Here’s the highlights (we don’t really need to dwell on the lowlights, do we?) of 2008:

January
-Gage turns 3 years old!
-We find out that our newest addition is a GIRL
-The drywall in our new home was hung
-President Hinckley passed away. (This isn't exactly personal, but it felt personal)

-got a new van
-TJ turns 5!
-house stuff

March
-more house stuff, painting and masonry.
-Josh leaves his previous employer after 8 years with a friends to start up their own company.

April
-again, more house stuff. cabinets hung, tile laying.
-getting excited to meet our new baby.
-Grandma and Grandpa's annual Easter party
-put our home up for sale

May

-sold our house (what a blessing!)
-we welcome baby Brynn to our family!!!

June

-carpet installed
-celebrated our 7th anniversary
-move into our new home!
-snowbird

July
-Brooke and Lindsi visit
-Stuart Family Reunion
-T-Ball
-Brynn's blessing
-Brynn starts crying (I know this isn't a highlight but for the next 3 months...this pretty much summed up my life.)

August
-I celebrated my 29th birthday
-swimming lessons
-TJ starts kindergarten
-loved watching the Olympics with Josh

September
-yard work
-county fair

October
-Brynn sits up by herself
-Bunco at my house
-my first paid photoshoot! (thanks Monica)

November -after 6 months in our new home, we finally get permanent power
-new laptop
-Thanksgiving at Angi's
-my niece Katy is born

December -Christmas fun
-lights at willard bay
-temple square

-Christmas Eve at our house
-beautiful white Christmas
-Enjoying lots of extra time with Josh while he's been off work

When you break it down like that, the year doesn’t seem so long, does it?

I won’t lie, this has been a challenging year for me. I try not to put that out on my blog too much but there it is. But there were SO many positive things that happened this year. And at the end of the year, after all the trials and heartache we can say that we’re all ok. We have one another. We have the gospel and our testimonies are as strong as ever. We know that the Lord is mindful of us, even, and especially, when times are rough. We know that the most important thing in life is family and wonderful friends. We can move forward each day with hope and determination to make the best of our situation. We’ll be just fine.

Happy New Year.

Loved the post view of your year. sounds a lot like ours with all the house craziness...I totally understand about the hard times...i think we all do, and though we try not to dwell on them they are still there regardless...they make us stronger...Right?
