.derby time.

Even though TJ won't be in scouts for another 6 months, the boys got to make their very own derby cars for the first time. Josh is the 2nd counselor in the Elders Quorum and for their end of summer party they had a BBQ dinner and derby races. Here they are researching their designs. (and yes...I know Brynn is buck naked).

after they picked out what they wanted to make, they cut it out on the rotary machine.

Then there was lots of sanding and painting. We had planned previous that the boys would spend the night at Grandma's house and even though they wouldn't be there for the party, they still wanted to make cars.

I was late getting to the party because I was dropping the boys off. When I got there this is what Josh was doing to keep busy. He and Charles manned the grill.

Our ward family enjoying the races.

Their cars did pretty well. They each got a certificate and a candy bar. When I called to see how things were going at Grandma's they were both excited to hear they had a treat waiting for them.

How fun! That is cool that they really "made" their cars and didn't just get the kit, ya know? Our elders quorum has done the derby racing too the last few years....without rules! That is pretty fun to watch too if you can imagine!
